I am not sure how the essay 'Discuss how far sociologists would agree that encouraging pupils to adopt British values has become in recent years the most important function of the education system.' can be adressed... Does anyone have a clear idea? There is very little in the textbook we have chosen on 'Britishness' (only a small section within the Political role of education). The marking scheme is very obscure and suggests mentioning opinions of educationalist, parents and politicians...? Any ideas, please!?

Please help! I am not sure how the essay 'Discuss how far sociologists would agree that encouraging pupils to adopt British values has become in recent years the most important function of the education system.' can be adressed... Talk about how school instils values of society - bring in Functionalism and Marxist theory of the point of education. Talk about American schools and pledge of allegation and the need for Citizenship in schools. Does anyone have a clear idea? There is very little in the textbook we have chosen on 'Britishness' (only a small section within the Political role of education). The marking scheme is very obscure and suggests mentioning opinions of educationalist, parents and politicians...? Talk about the ethnicentric nature of education - History being the study of "Dead, White, Men" the problems and why we need to address them - New Right problems of lack of intergration and immigration changing the landscape of cities and schools (can mention things like Black History Month) They say what else school teaches you - not britishness... etc |
