This idea is from Helen Gibb's (follow me) mind and was lovingly penned on 3 September 2009.
Whenever I get an idea for a new activity I code it
Red
Really fun for them a lot of planning for me. Something they wont forget. An event
Yellow
A staple but fun classroom activity that promotes knowledge and understanding in a similar way to red but more practical to do more often.
Green
Something we can do on a regular basis that they quite like usually reinforces knowledge
Blue
A good skill developer nothing special but can divert them in a lesson
You may also want to letter code the activities to show which learning style they favour this way it can be flagged in the scheme of work and you can ensure that you address all learning styles during a 6 week period.
• For every topic I cover I aim to have the following
• 1-2 reds
• 3-4 yellows
• 4-8 Greens
• 4-8 Blues
Aim being the operative word it may take a couple of years to get to that.
I find doing this pushes me to think up (or develop with my friends) red activities for the more boring topics .It also ensures I don’t go to long making the students listen to my droning on. As I get around to uploading some of my ideas I will code them this way and then those of you who have read this will be in the know.
