Thanks Chris. You're absolutely right, I'll think of another example and add the comment about normal science. If you can think of an example of a paradigm shift, that would be grand. Ergot poisoning is the only example I can think of the moment which represents a paradgim shift.

How about the recent example of the claim to have broken the speed of light? If validated (I think a second experiment has tentatively confirmed the first) this would represent a massive paradigm shift in physics (and the possibility of time travel is always a winner with students).
